ADVANCED ELECTROLYSIS - BLEMISH REMOVAL

ElectrolysisAdvanced Electrolysis is non-surgical & non-invasive, safe and effective form of skin blemish removal, often with immediate results using electrolysis.

Electrolysis is best known as a permanent hair removal method which works by passing an electrical current into the root of the hair follicle & destroying it. However, electrical current can also be used to remove skin blemishes such as skin tags, thread veins, age spots, blood spots, sebaceous hyperplasia & milia. The electrical current passes down a probe & into the skin where it effectively cauterises the blemish enabling it to be removed without surgery & with minimal discomfort or lifts away the superficial epidermis, depending on the type of blemish that is being treated.

Your skin then begins the healing process, allowing the dead skin cells which were involved in the electrolysis process to push up to the surface of the skin & flake off, in the same way as a tiny cut would heal.

With Advanced Electrolysis, there are different methods used & different types of probes to choose from which are all consist of minimal pain or discomfort.

types of blemish removal

SKIN TAGS

These common blemishes are generally caused by ageing or friction, most often being found around the armpit, bust, neck, groin & eyelids. They often appear with a neck like a mushroom & vary greatly in size.

Treatment involves the use of a diathermy current to either destroy the blood supply so that they wither away over a couple of days, or if they are exceptionally large diathermy is used to lift them away immediately with small red marks or scabbing appearing after treatment. These will disappear after 7-10 days.

THREAD VEINS - TELANGIECTASIA

Facial red veins are common skin blemishes. They are permanent dilation of capillaries under the skin, also known as broken capillaries, thread veins or broken veins. They are typically found on more exposed areas of the skin, like the nose & cheeks. There can be many causes of thread veins, including ageing, allergies, birthmarks, medication, alcohol or spicy food and genetics. Thread veins on the face are quickly & easily treated.

During the treatment, the thread veins will be cauterised and stop the blood flow through the thread veins. When the treatment is completed, your skin will be just a little lighter in tone & the redness of the thread veins will have entirely vanished, since the blood in the vein will have been reabsorbed into the body. Don't be alarmed if you see some small crusts, resembling in tiny scratches, forming over the area in the 7 to 10 days after treatment. They will gradually disappear on their own.

Thread veins on the body, including the legs, may also be treated using a blend electrolysis technique with some success.

Depending on how many thread veins need to be treated, more than one treatment may be required to reduce the thread veins, although there may be a noticeable difference after just one treatment. Please note that the legs will heal longer then the face.

AGE SPOTS

Age spots are dark patches of hyperpigmentation caused by natural or artificial UV light exposure. They vary in shape and size, commonly found on the face, body & hands.

Superficial age spots are easily removed using diathermy electrolysis. These blemishes are lifted away and cauterised, leaving small scabs that will disappear over a couple of weeks. Simply leave these to fall away on their own. This will happen over a period of up to 2 weeks. Once the scabs have gone, the treated area will retain a pinkish tone until your skin settles back to its normal colouring over the next few weeks.

BLOOD SPOTS

Blood spots are also knows as cherry angiomas; when they are larger & dome-shaped, they can also be referred to as Campbell de Morgans. Blood spots are bright red superficial vascular blemishes, often dome-shaped or slightly raised & more frequently on the midriff. They are entirely harmless & can grow up to the size of the penny.

They are dispersed with a low diathermy electrolysis technique & generally disappear immediately, although some will turn a pale grey and disappear over a few days.

MILIA

Milia are small white pearls under the skin's surface, often around the eyes or cheeks, caused by dry skin cell buildup blocking sebaceous glands. Regular exfoliation & moisturising can help. While not infectious, milia are easily treated using advanced electrolysis.

For milia removal, the probe is inserted into the milia with the current on, which breaks down the keratin with hardly any noticeable damage to the skin & the milia is reabsorbed back into the skin.

SEBACEOUS HYPERPLASIA

Sebaceous hyperplasia is a benign skin condition characterised by small bumps caused by damage leading to overproduction of sebum. These bumps, often yellowish or whitish, resemble a ring donut with an indented centre. Found mainly on the face, particularly around the nose, cheeks & forehead.

Sebaceous Hyperplasia can be treated with advanced electrolysis, by tapping the raised areas & cauterising the blood flow. You will probably see some small marks where the blemish was previously located. Dry and crusty in texture, they will be gone in no more than 7 to 10 days.

SPIDER NAEVI

Spider naevi are clusters of tiny, visible blood vessels that resemble a cherry angioma with radiating veins. Common on the face and cheeks, they can result from trauma, pregnancy, hormonal changes, or genetics.

We treat these with a low diathermy current or blend electrolysis technique. Although they often visibly reduce immediately, some will need further treatment.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AFTER TREATMENT?

  • Redness, swelling & sensitivity of the skin in the area which has been treated up to 48 hours.

  • The treated area & surrounding skin may feel hot for up to 48 hours.

ADVANCED ELECTROLYSIS

15 MINS | £55      30 MINS | £90       45 MINS | £120       1 HOUR | £150

Note:

- The treated blemish will not return, but others may occur depending upon the root cause.

- Electrolysis clients generally describe the treatment as mildly uncomfortable, with a warm stinging sensation which they find to be easily tolerable.

- In many cases the results are instantaneous, but length of treatment very much depends on individual problems and skin reactivity. Although a treatment plan will be devised during consultation to take into account spacing techniques and treatment intervals (normally a minimum of 4 weeks between appointments), as well as your own needs and wishes, a definite time is difficult to give.

- Immediately after the skin may be a little red, swollen and warm. Sometimes pin-dot crusts may appear, which must be left to fall off naturally, taking anything from 2 days to 2 weeks.

- To help the skin heal, you can use aloe vera & SPF 30+ to keep the skin moisturized & protected.

POST TREATMENTS ADVICE FOR ADVANCED ELECTROLYSIS:

  • Pin dot crusts or scabs may appear to seal the skin & prevent infections. These must not be rubbed or picked off, as to do so may result in scarring. The crusts or scabs may be indistinguishable and 'felt' rather than 'seen'.

  • Ensure the area is kept clean & dry using sterile, saline or boiled water or a mild antiseptic cleanser.

  • The area can be protected with a clean lint dressing for a few days post treatment until the area scabs.

  • Do not touch, rub or irritate the treated area. When washing & cleaning, use a gentle soap or perfume free cleanser and gently pat the area dry to avoid dislodging and crusts or scabs.

  • Avoid any activities for 48 hours that stimulate blood flow following vascular treatments, e.g., exercise, hot showers/baths, hot spicy foods and alcohol.

  • Avoid activeties for 48 hours that may irritate or dislodge any crusting or minor scabbing e.g., swimming, saunas, steam rooms, facial steaming, facial scrubs, waxing and other beauty treatments, until the area has completely healed.

  • Do not fly within the next 48 hours following vascular treatment.

  • Please keep out of UV light completely during the healing process & as much as possible generally. Cover up with hat or parasol and protect sun exposed areas by using a good quality high factor sunscreen at all times particularly in summer months.

  • Avoid the possible causes of vascular blemishes, for example, wearing tight fitting glasses, squeezing spots, careless or erratic tweezing or blowing nose to vigorously.

  • Avoid using any make up, possible skin sensitisers or irritants such as perfumes, fake tan products & perfumed body lotions.
